ABOUT THE PEQUAWKET FOUNDATION
The Pequawket Foundation was founded on December 31, 1958, by a group of Valley business leaders, initially for the purpose of preserving rail service to the region. Later, the Foundation was funded by the proceeds of the sale of the Gibson Block on Main Street in North Conway. This was a gift of Mrs. Helen Gibson, a generous community leader whose mark, along with that of her husband, Harvey Dow Gibson, can be found on myriad community resources around the valley.
Over the years many additional gifts have been received by the Foundation from various donors. These gifts have been carefully invested, and are managed by the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation as a donor advised fund, to enable the Foundation to share its resources most generously within the community. The Pequawket Foundation assets total of over $528,000, and grants made to community organizations have exceeded $640,000 since 1992.
In keeping with Mrs. Gibson's desire to forever maintain the striking beauty and sense of community connectedness of her adopted home, the Foundation seeks to fund local organizations whose work enhances the quality of life in the valley.
The Foundation Fund is advised by a volunteer Board of Trustees, assisted by Members selected from the communities we serve. Trustees and Members are community leaders with broad local experience.
